The "Total Cookie Security" design update provides greater protection against online monitoring by restricting websites' ability to read cookies set by third-party services. According to a Mozilla blog article, access to any specific cookie is limited to the website that placed the cookie in a user's browser. Therefore a cookie produced by one website or service is not readable by other websites a user visits.
